KEDAH — PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has sought to reassure non-Malay communities that the Islamist party will uphold the sanctity of the Federal Constitution and protect their rights under its leadership. Speaking at the party’s annual assembly, Hadi said PAS would advance the “true interpretation of Islam” without sidelining other communities, adding that the party is committed to respecting non-Muslim sensitivities, even on matters of faith.
PAS Vows protection of rights
Acknowledging criticisms that PAS has struggled to appeal to non-Malays, he emphasised the role of PAS’ unity and preaching bureaus, as well as its non-Muslim wing, in strengthening outreach. Hadi said this strategy is crucial in winning constituencies with mixed demographics while reinforcing PAS’ presence in Muslim-majority areas.
