PETALING JAYA – A clear internal split is emerging within PKR as Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim issued a sharp rebuke against nine party MPs, including Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, for demanding a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into judicial appointments.
In a strongly worded statement, Hassan warned that the move could destabilise Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration and undermine his leadership. He accused Rafizi, a former Economic Minister, of leading a politically reckless charge that risks turning Anwar — who holds constitutional power over judicial appointments — into a suspect in the eyes of the public.
Anwar’s Downfall
“This puts Anwar under the guillotine, just like in the French Revolution,” said Hassan, describing the move as a rare internal revolt and an unprecedented challenge to a sitting PKR president.
While acknowledging the MPs’ actions as part of healthy democratic practice, Hassan questioned whether they had fully considered the long-term national interest and reformist ideals the party stands for. He added that forming an RCI requires Cabinet approval, and urged Anwar to respond wisely upon his return from abroad.
