National women’s doubles ace Pearly Tan had a great 24th birthday when she and partner M. Thinaah pulled off arguably the biggest win of their career. They defeated world No. 1 Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan from China to march into the quarter-finals of the All England yesterday.

Before the match, not many thought they would pull such a success after failing to win any in their previous five matches against the four-time world champions, but they turned on the style to win 22-20, 21-16. Pearly played down the significance of the success saying Yi Fan was suffering from an injury. Thinaah said they did not let the opponents’ predicament distract their play. Kudos Pearly-Thinaah!
