Penang Hardware Owner Apologises Over Upside-Down Jalur Gemilang Incident

A hardware shop owner in Kepala Batas, Penang, sparked outrage after a video showed him waving an upside-down Jalur Gemilang. Police received a report on August 9 and have recorded statements from both the complainant and the owner, Pang Chin Tian, 59.

Former Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican confronted Pang before escorting him to the police station. 

Pang claimed the flag was hoisted incorrectly by an employee while measuring a pole and that it was only a “test.” Apologising to Malaysians, he pledged full cooperation with police. The case is being investigated under the Emblems and Names Act 1950.
