The Penang State Government, particularly its Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, faced criticism online due to tourism pamphlets allegedly available only in Mandarin and English. Former assemblyperson Satees A/L Muniandy highlighted this issue under the “Experience Penang! The Diversity of Asia” initiative.

Satees sarcastically praised the government for being “very good” as the pamphlets lacked Bahasa Melayu, the national language. Netizens all responded with sarcastic comments stating that the state is doing well not including the country’s national language.
Regardless, Satees then questioned why there were no Tamil pamphlets and urged consistency in promoting Penang as the “melting pot of Asia.
