Penang urged to strengthen self-reliant economy for long-term growth

Penang must strengthen its economic foundations and move toward greater self-reliance to ensure sustainable long-term development, according to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. He said the state should focus on building resilience and expanding local capabilities.

The state government emphasised that economic progress should be supported by local industries and innovation, ensuring growth that benefits the wider community while reducing dependence on external factors. 

Officials noted that strengthening Penang’s economic base would allow the state to remain competitive in the region while maintaining stability during global economic fluctuations.
