PH Questions AG’s statement on no-confidence vote

The Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council says it is shocked after examining the Attorney -General’s media statement yesterday, which says that a vote of confidence was not necessary for Parliament when the Dewan Rakyat will begin sitting on September 13.

“The Attorney General’s statement is contrary to the order of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to all party leaders during the session at the Istana Negara on August 17 and as recorded in the Istana Negara press statement dated August 18 when His Majesty has said:

“The Prime Minister who has been appointed by His Majesty pursuant to Article 40 (2) (a) and 43 (2) (a) of the Federal Constitution shall as soon as possible submitted a motion of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat to legitimize him gaining the confidence of the majority of Dewan Rakyat members.”

PH recalls that a vote of confidence took place on January 27, 1976, 12 days after Dato Hussein Onn was appointed Prime Minister to replace the late Tun Abdul Razak, and November 3, 2003, 3 days after Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was appointed Prime Minister to replace Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
