The alert level remained at 1 on a five-level scale, signifying a slight increase in volcanic activity. Taal is one of the Philippines’ most active volcanoes and caused a significant eruption in January 2020, prompting evacuations and flight cancellations. Volcanic smog, or vog, containing volcanic gases like sulfur, can lead to respiratory issues and irritation of the eyes and throat.
