Phu Kradueng National Park in Loei, Thailand, was indefinitely closed on Dec 12 following a fatal wild elephant attack. Park officials evacuated the last 889 tourists the next morning.
The closure came after a 49-year-old woman was killed on the Ong Phra Buddha Metta nature trail while walking to the Phen Phop Waterfall. The elephant charged at her twice, leading to her death. Evidence of the elephant lingering near tourist trails raised further safety concerns.
Tourists with accommodations booked can contact the park office or the Department of National Parks for refunds.
