Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has issued a stark ultimatum to senior enforcement officials and agency heads, giving them one week to confirm whether they are prepared to fully carry out their duties in tackling issues like corruption, smuggling and other illicit activities — or to step aside if they are unable to do so. Anwar said he has reached a point of “losing patience” with ongoing weaknesses in enforcement that allow wrongdoing to persist.
Anwar Warns Enforcement Chiefs: Act within One Week or be Replaced
Speaking at a briefing with department and agency leaders involved in combating financial crime, Anwar urged officials to reflect seriously on their readiness to shoulder their responsibilities, emphasising that tolerance of wrongdoing and complacency can no longer be accepted in the nation’s enforcement framework. Those who feel overwhelmed by the challenges were advised to communicate their intentions within the given timeframe.
Anwar also highlighted the importance of teamwork among agencies and reminded leaders that their high ranks carry a moral obligation to act with integrity and resolve. He said the public expects genuine reform and visible action against systemic problems, and that delays or excuses would not be tolerated.
