A viral video showing a prankster dressed as a “pocong” being kicked and beaten by residents in Demak, Central Java has sparked outrage online. The pocong is a ghost in Indonesian and Malaysian folklore, said to be the soul of a dead person trapped in their burial shroud.

The prankster and a friend were apprehended by the police and eventually handed back to their families to be disciplined as they were both minors.
The police have warned the public not to mimic the boys’ actions as it could endanger themselves and others. Many are posting videos of ghosts on Facebook and TikTok, saying these were real supernatural phenomenons captured on camera. Do you believe them?
