KUALA LUMPUR, April 4, 2025 – Malaysian police are investigating the tagging of Hindu temples as “illegal” on Google Maps and Waze, citing abuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA). Deputy Inspector-General Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said sedition could be considered if evidence emerges, though the probe currently focuses on offensive online content. The issue surfaced after Urimai’s David Marshel urged action against the labels, calling them disrespectful. This follows recent tensions over temple land rights, notably resolved with the relocation of the 130-year-old Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman temple.
