SUARAM executive director Sevan Doraisamy has urged immediate reforms following the EAIC’s investigation into the abuse of Rohingya detainees at the Sungai Bakap Immigration Detention Depot. The EAIC revealed that 131 detainees fled the facility in February to escape extreme violence and abuse. Sevan called on Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution to acknowledge the inhumane conditions in detention centers and implement comprehensive reforms to break the cycle of neglect. He also recommended the formation of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to address systemic issues in detention centers and ensure accountability for abuses.
