Proton Holdings Bhd’s electric vehicle (EV) production plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak, is set to begin operations in September, marking a milestone for Malaysia’s automotive industry. The facility is 90.4% structurally complete, with equipment installation at 83.5%.
Proton’s EV Plant to Begin Operations in September
Proton will launch production with the e.MAS 7, the nation’s first locally developed EV, followed by the entry-level e.MAS 5. The plant will initially produce 20,000 units annually, expandable to 45,000 depending on demand.
Supported by strategic partner Geely, the plant will create over 200 specialised jobs and position Proton as a regional EV player, driving sustainability and international expansion.
