Pua on terrorist, extortionist, Americans in sarcastic advice to Zafrul

1 min read

Tony Pua, former aide to ex-Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, sarcastically advised Investment Minister Tengku Zafrul to counter U.S. – whom he called terrorists and extortionists – trade demands by highlighting Malaysia’s US$9 billion services deficit with the U.S. in 2023, offsetting the US$25 billion trade deficit to a net US$15 billion. Pua noted that U.S. companies like Netflix and Facebook earn untaxed profits in Malaysia.

“In our ‘negotiations’ with the terrorists, I hope we can plead that the US runs a services surplus of >USD9 bil (2023),”

Tony Pua

“Please also beg for sympathy from the extortionists because our per capita income is only ~US$11,400.” Tony Pua.
