The Sabah mining scandal is unlikely to end with Deputy Chief Minister Jeffrey Kitingan, former economy minister Rafizi Ramli cautioned. Speaking on his Yang Berhenti Menteri podcast, Rafizi said the controversy could extend to figures in Putrajaya, raising concerns of wider political fallout.
Sabah mining scandal reach
Kitingan recently spent over five hours giving his statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Kota Kinabalu. His appearance followed businessperson Albert Tei’s video claim that he had paid RM1.78 million to Kitingan in connection with a cancelled mining licence.
Rafizi warned that public perception would focus on whether money changed hands, equating it with corruption, and noted the issue could impact the next election.
