KUALA LUMPUR – Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli said it is unjust to blame Umno for the Madani government’s slow reform pace, stressing he saw no resistance from Umno ministers during his time in cabinet.
He argued that Umno, seeking to regain urban and educated voters, has been open to popular reform initiatives. “I don’t really remember Umno protesting anything, and some of the things I brought (as economy minister) were radical,” said the Pandan MP, adding jokingly that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim might say Umno protested “behind him.”
Slow reforms
Rafizi described Umno as a party skilled in navigating power due to its long history in government. However, he turned his criticism toward fellow PKR ministers, naming Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Federal Territories Minister Zaliha Mustafa, and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil as lacking ideas, leadership, and problem-solving ability.
