Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has hit back at former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, calling him a serial liar and a failed minister over claims that a PKR lawmaker received RM9.5 million linked to an alleged corporate mafia.
Ramanan made the remarks on Thursday (Oct 22) when asked about Rafizi’s allegation, which named him as the parliamentarian said to have received the money.
Ramanan Rejects Rafizi’s RM9.5 Million Claim
The PKR leader said Rafizi routinely levels accusations at others without producing documents to back them up, and dismissed the RM9.5 million claim as lacking evidence or facts.
He also accused Rafizi of using the issue to divert attention from other controversies, including one involving a self-service machine contract.
Ramanan said he was tired of hearing Rafizi’s name and dared his critic to take him to court if he disagreed with what was said, adding that he would be waiting.
Why He Won’t Sue
Asked why he had not filed a defamation suit, Ramanan said suing would end up burdening ordinary Malaysians. He pointed out that Rafizi had previously lost a court case and then turned to the public for donations to cover the cost.
Rafizi said earlier this week on X that he had not received any writ of summons from Ramanan, and that he was ready to defend his allegations and present evidence in court if one were filed.
Corporate Mafia Row Rumbles On
Rafizi’s claims centre on allegations that some enforcement officers worked with businessmen to pressure company owners into giving up control of their firms. He has questioned the Prime Minister’s explanation of the issue in the Dewan Rakyat.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier rejected the claim that a minister received RM9.5 million from a businessman, citing a lack of evidence, and told Parliament that legal action had been taken. None of the allegations against Ramanan or others named in the dispute have been proven.
