Lee Zii Jia, Malaysia’s top men’s singles shuttler, faced a disappointing early exit at the China Open after being defeated by Japan’s Koki Watanabe in the first round. World No. 3 Zii Jia struggled against the world No. 14, losing 15-21, 2-21 in just 29 minutes at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Changzhou. Reflecting on his defeat, the 26-year-old admitted, “I still need more time to recover my physical condition.” He acknowledged the match as a valuable experience and recognized his need for further self-adjustment following his recent Olympic bronze. Zii Jia now hopes to recover and bounce back at the Arctic Open in Finland next month.
