The act drew criticism, including from Federal Territories Mufti Ahmad Fauwaz Fadzil, who stated that using Qunut Nazilah against fellow Muslims is against Islamic teachings. He warned that such misuse could cause disunity and stressed the need for prayers to be guided by religious principles.
Traditionally, Qunut Nazilah is recited in times of crisis, such as pandemics or in solidarity with Muslims in war zones, not political disputes.
