The launch of reservations for Rembayung, the much-anticipated first restaurant from Malaysian food influencer Khairul Aming, drew intense interest on Sunday when its online booking system crashed under heavy traffic. Around 3,000 diners managed to secure tables for openings starting January 7 after bookings went live at 9 pm, while others were unable to access the site due to the surge.

Rembayung bookings overwhelm system, highlight demand for influencer’s first restaurant Khairul Aming, whose real name is Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, apologised on social media for the technical issues, saying demand far exceeded expectations and that the team worked through the night to address problems. Built with a roughly RM4 million investment, Rembayung is a two-storey semi-glasshouse venue in Kampung Baru seating more than 250 diners and featuring traditional Malay kampung dishes.

Despite frustrations from some users unable to book, many Malaysians responded with support and jokes online, turning the launch hiccup into part of the buzz around the restaurant’s opening. Early interest suggests strong public appetite for the new dining spot as it prepares to welcome patrons with kampung-style favourites including masak lemak cili api, sambal udang and asam pedas.
