The ringgit opened stronger against the US dollar on Monday, buoyed by Malaysia’s robust advance GDP growth of 5.7% in the fourth quarter of 2025, signalling continued economic resilience.
Ringgit Strengthens against USD
At 8 am, the currency stood at 4.0540/0640 versus the greenback, compared to Friday’s close of 4.0555/0605. Bank Muamalat chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid noted that while the US Dollar Index remains firm and Japan’s snap election has weakened the yen, Malaysia’s growth outlook supports stability.
Bank Negara Malaysia is expected to keep the OPR unchanged this week. The ringgit, however, traded mixed against major and ASEAN currencies.
