RM1.9 Billion Lost to Online SCAM in 2025, Says Deputy Minister

Malaysia recorded 47,854 online fraud cases as of September 2025, with losses reaching RM1.919 billion—up from RM1.574 billion in 2024. Deputy Home Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the surge reflects 12,486 more victims and underscores the need for stronger enforcement.

Recent legal reforms include Penal Code amendments (Sections 424A–424D) targeting mule accounts and Criminal Procedure Code updates allowing police to freeze suspicious bank accounts. A dedicated cybercrime bill is being drafted to address evolving threats.

The government remains committed to curbing digital fraud through stricter laws, improved investigations, and public awareness efforts.
