RM11 Million in MEX II Funds Spent on Crypto, Luxury Items and Gambling

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has uncovered that RM11 million in sukuk funds meant for the Maju Expressway Extension (MEX II) project was instead spent on cryptocurrency and used for unauthorised purchases.

MACC chief Azam Baki revealed the money trail also involved luxury items, real estate, and gambling, allegedly linked to a prominent corporate figure with a “Tan Sri” title. So far, 55 witnesses have been questioned, and 14 bank accounts frozen. 

Seized assets include luxury cars, property, watches, jewellery, and horses. MACC aims to complete its investigation within two months, while more witnesses and financial records are being reviewed.
