Between January 1, 2024, and February 17, 2025, Malaysian authorities seized RM3.8 billion worth of illegal e-waste in a nationwide crackdown. The operation, led by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Department of Environment (DOE), targeted unauthorized e-waste processing facilities. A total of 538 individuals were arrested, including children as young as two years old and individuals up to 60 years old. During the peak of the operation, Op Hazard, authorities confiscated RM2.68 billion worth of e-waste, weighing 22.9 million kilograms, and arrested 246 suspects. Investigations are ongoing to identify key perpetrators, including foreign operators.
