RM700 Bus Driver Pay Sparks Enforcement Call from Human Resources Ministry

Human Resources Minister Steven Sim confirmed that only one complaint was received in the first half of 2025 regarding a bus company failing to pay the RM1,700 minimum wage. The complaint involved Penawar Express Line Bhd, which faced enforcement action.

While the number of complaints is low, Sim emphasised that minimum wage compliance is a legal obligation, not a suggestion.

He said the Labour Department continues to conduct routine inspections to ensure adherence to labour laws. The statement follows public concern over some bus drivers reportedly earning just RM700 a month, depending on allowances and overtime to make ends meet.
