Rouxin wins Malaysia’s first World Cup medal in 35 years now

Tan Rouxin, 18, became the first Malaysian swimmer in 35 years to win a medal at a short course World Cup event, earning bronze in the 400m individual medley in Shanghai. She finished with a time of 4:55.27, just 0.79 seconds shy of her national record. Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey won gold, and Slovakia’s Nikoleta Trnikova took silver. National coach Eric Anderson praised her unexpected success in the final. The last Malaysian to win a short course World Cup medal was Jeffery Ong in 1989. Other Malaysian swimmers, including Hii Puong Wei and Chong Xin Lin, also set new national records.
