Bill to Make Secondary Education Compulsory to Be Tabled in February

A bill to amend the Education Act 1996, making education compulsory up to secondary school, will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat in February, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. The proposed bill, now under review by the Attorney General’s Chambers, aims to ensure no dropouts in secondary schools.

This policy intends to provide all Malaysian children with access to quality education, ensuring they complete secondary education with a minimum qualification of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or in technical and vocational fields. The current primary school policy has achieved a high enrolment rate of 98-99%.
