KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian authorities have stepped up security at Petronas’ liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Sarawak and Sabah after an employee received threatening text messages, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof confirmed. The National Security Council on Sept 8 ordered immediate tightening of security at LNG sites, including the Bintulu complex, Petronas’ flagship facility with a capacity of 29.3 million tonnes annually. Fadillah said the texts, traced to an Indonesian number, included demands and later threats to burn down the facilities. Police investigations are ongoing, while Petronas is working closely with authorities to ensure operational safety.
