SELANGOR – The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council is paying RM3 (S$0.90) for every rat caught at Pekan Ampang market under its Rat Extermination Campaign from July 8 to 25. The initiative aims to create a cleaner, healthier environment for market goers. Rat-catchers can redeem cash on weekdays between 9.30am and 12.30pm. Campaign posters highlight United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for health and sustainable communities. Similar efforts are running elsewhere, including Kota Kinabalu’s RM2-per-rat bounty. Malaysian councils have offered such incentives before, with Johor’s Iskandar Puteri council paying RM1 per rat in 2019 and Kuala Lumpur City Hall in 2013.
