A 64‑year‑old Singapore Permanent Resident, Long Sa Kow, was fined RM9,000 by the Kulai Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to altering his Volkswagen Jetta’s license plate to purchase subsidised RON95 fuel in Johor.

Senior Citizen Fined RM9k

The offence occurred on January 2 at a petrol station in Kulai. If he fails to pay, Long faces nine months in jail. His lawyer sought leniency, citing financial hardship and family responsibilities, while prosecutors urged deterrence.

Police found he had covered parts of his plate to mimic a Malaysian registration. Authorities reminded the public that tampering with license plates is illegal and punishable.
