The Selangor government has clarified why an application to install an escalator at the Batu Caves Hindu Temple was initially rejected. Human Resources and Poverty Eradication EXCO Papparaidu Veraman explained that the proposal, submitted in February 2025, was filed under an individual’s name, which is not permissible for government land use.

Approval can only be granted to registered associations. The state later approved the land under the temple association’s name, provided it is legally registered with the Registrar of Societies. Papparaidu stressed that all new construction requires planning permission and compliance with technical conditions, ensuring fairness and transparency.
