A 25-year-old Singaporean man was fined RM1,500 and ordered to perform four hours of community service by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court after being caught discarding a cigarette butt during New Year’s celebrations in Bukit Bintang.

Singaporean Fined RM1.5k

He pleaded guilty under the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 without legal representation.

The court warned that failure to pay the fine would result in a one-month jail term. The man explained he did not see rubbish bins nearby and noticed other cigarette butts on the ground, but admitted his actions violated the law. No appeal was reported.
