Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has urged parents not to panic over the option for six‑year‑olds to enter Year One beginning in 2027. She explained that only children who pass a diagnostic test assessing readiness, including emotional and skill development, will be admitted.

The initiative is part of the National Education Plan 2026–2035 and is not compulsory, leaving the final decision to parents.
The Ministry of Education will prepare infrastructure, including additional classrooms built through the IBS system if needed, and train teachers to handle younger pupils. Fadhlina emphasized that the reform aims to ensure fairness, readiness, and stronger educational outcomes.
