KUALA LUMPUR – DAP veteran Lim Guan Eng has strongly criticised the nine-day detention of a 16-year-old girl under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) in Kedah from January 14 to January 23. “Something is very wrong when a 16 year old girl can be detained under… Sosma for 9 days… This experience for the young girl must be traumatic for her and her mother.

The teen suffered vomiting and developed skin allergies during her detention in Kedah,” he wrote on Facebook. Lim highlighted that Section 13 of SOSMA provides exceptions for minors under 18 and women, questioning why these were ignored. He called the incident unacceptable and demanded SOSMA be abolished or fully overhauled to protect human rights and prevent abuse of power.
