Malaysia and South Korea will sign a defence cooperation MoU this October, marking a major step in bilateral ties. Ambassador Yeo Sung-bae confirmed South Korea will become only the second nation with both defence and defence industry partnerships with Malaysia.

The agreement will be formalised during a meeting between President Lee Jae-myung and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the 47th ASEAN Summit. Both countries aim to tackle asymmetric threats like cyberattacks and maritime security through joint AI-driven defence initiatives.
Korean firms are already collaborating with Malaysian partners on next-gen fighters, unmanned vessels, and AI combat systems to build a self-reliant defence sector.
