The Election Commission (SPR) has set 12 December as polling day for the 13th Sarawak state election.
SPR chairman Ramlan Harun said the decision was reached at a special meeting on election preparations and announced it at a press conference in Kuching.
13th Sarawak Election: Over Two Million Voters to Decide 82 Seats
The election follows the dissolution of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on 26 October. Premier Abang Johari Openg announced the dissolution on 23 October after obtaining the consent of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Under Article 21(4) of the Sarawak Constitution, an election must be held within 60 days of dissolution. Voters will decide all 82 existing state seats, and more than two million registered voters are eligible.
They will choose the representatives who form the state government for the new term.
Ramlan also said SPR has decided to extend its pilot of the Optical Character Recognition Vote Attendance (OCRVA) system to all voting channels at every polling centre across the 82 constituencies.
