Starbucks Malaysia has dismissed a barista who was caught on video calling a Chinese tourist “bodoh” (stupid) at its KLIA 2 outlet. The incident, which went viral, involved the tourist struggling to order due to language barriers. 

Starbucks Fires Barista for “Bodoh” Slur

Starbucks issued a public apology and confirmed the employee was terminated on 21 September following an internal review. The company reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity and announced enhanced training on cultural sensitivity and respectful communication. 

The episode has sparked broader concerns about how non-Malay-speaking tourists are treated and whether frontline staff are adequately equipped to serve diverse customers.
