The recent discussion on how the local tourism economy is suffering in lieu of middle class Malaysians holidaying in Thailand has been trending. However, X users state that the higher income individuals (T20 individuals) are traveling to Europe constantly and would rarely travel within the country.
T20 individuals holidaying overseas is fine, but it’s not fine for M40 and B40?
Some users state that there aren’t that many wealthy Malaysians for them to make a dent in the local economy. However, the M40 and B40 individuals are significantly more (as they are basically 80% of the country). Users suggest that the middle class are sustaining the local economy more.
Others state that they refuse to support local tourism when it’s literally cheaper overseas. Regardless, the inflation in Malaysia has even affected our local tourism.
