Hurricane Ida left Grand Isle on the Gulf of Mexico, a Louisiana community, so devastated that it’s not possible to live there at the moment.
Grand Isle, approximately 108 miles south of New Orleans, is “uninhabitable,” Jefferson County Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng told reporters in a briefing.
Ida struck Louisiana on Sunday, leaving severe damage and knocking out power to over one million people in the state.
“There’s three feet of sand across the entire island,” she said, citing officials who toured the area. “This is a result of 10 to 12 breaks in the levee on the Gulf Side.”
