The PH-led government has prepared five papers related to the cost of living that will be presented and discussed in a special meeting of the National Cost of Living Action Council or NACCOL this Tuesday, says the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.
He says the meeting will be chaired by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim along with 15 ministries and the aim is to find a durable solution to the problem of the rising cost of living that is affecting the Malaysians.
The meeting includes the Ministry of Transport, Agriculture and Food Security as well as Science, Technology and Innovation. “This hot issue is a major mission of Datuk Seri Anwar as Prime Minister who is committed to working together to overcome the cost of living,” he says.
Cost of living and the poor
At the meeting on November 27, Anwar ordered NACCOL to analyze and investigate the implications of government subsidies on various products within two weeks.
“I gave a period of two weeks because it is in line with the decision to be taken by the Council of Ministers. I put this first because I think the problem of subsistence is a huge problem that is torturing the poor,” Anwar says.
