RM1 Billion in Arrears Leads to Power Cuts for TNB Accounts

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has cut power to 627,491 accounts with arrears totaling RM1,008,771,447.78. Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir noted the increase from last year’s 464,076 accounts with RM945,435,794.07 in arrears.

Actions were taken under the Electric Supply Act 1990 after reminders and discussions. Akmal cited financial constraints, irresponsibility, and negligence for delayed payments. The top five states with the highest arrears are Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Johor, and Terengganu.
