A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from conditioning transportation grants on cooperation with immigration enforcement. NBCNews states, Chief U.S. District Judge John McConnell ruled the Transportation Department overstepped its authority by requiring 20 Democratic-led states to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to access federal funding.

McConnell emphasized that Congress intended the grants to support infrastructure, not enforce immigration policy. The lawsuit, filed by Democratic attorneys general, argued the administration used funding as leverage to force compliance with Trump’s immigration agenda.
