US Vice President JD Vance confirmed on Sunday (Aug 10) that President Donald Trump is considering imposing tariffs on China as a penalty for importing Russian oil, though no final decision has been made.
Trump Weighs Tariffs on China Over Russian Oil Imports
The announcement follows Washington’s move to impose a 25% tariff on India for similar purchases, raising its total duties to 50%.
Trump has previously threatened 100% tariffs on Russia and “secondary tariffs” on countries buying its oil if Moscow fails to reach a peace deal with Ukraine within 50 days. Russia criticised the measures, calling them illegal and asserting nations’ rights to choose their own trading partners.
