Two Selangor DAP assemblymen have voiced support for a proposed confidence and supply agreement (CSA) between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Bersatu, even as Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari stays tight-lipped on its specifics.
Banting assemblyman V Papparaidu, who is also a state exco member, said the proposal should be judged on political stability, good governance and its impact on the welfare of Selangor residents.
Selangor PH-Bersatu Pact Expected Before Mid-November State Budget
Any effort that promotes stability and lets the government focus on delivering for the people deserves serious consideration, he said, adding that cooperation should not be about party interests alone.
Amirudin, who chairs PH Selangor, confirmed ongoing talks with Selangor Bersatu chief Azmin Ali on terms of the CSA, which is expected to be signed before the state budget is tabled in mid-November. He declined to reveal specific offers pending approval from the PH central leadership.
A CSA is an agreement under which a non-government party supports or abstains in confidence motions and helps pass budget or supply bills, in exchange for allocations or policy concessions.
Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran noted that PH holds 32 seats, with three more government-bench members, in the 56-seat assembly.
“If Bersatu wants to pledge support to PH and Amirudin as menteri besar, why not?” he said. With Bersatu’s 11 seats, support would reach 46, above the 38 needed for a two-thirds majority. He said it was too early to consider cooperation beyond the CSA, with the state election two years away.
