Political analysts say Umno is unlikely to form an electoral pact with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the next general election, despite unease within Barisan Nasional (BN) over its cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) and grassroots pressure from MIC.
UMNO Unlikely to Join PN
International Islamic University Malaysia’s Syaza Shukri noted BN will likely contest alone, leaving room for post‑election negotiations if PN emerges as the largest bloc. Analysts caution that any BN–PN alliance would be dominated by PAS, while Umno’s strained ties with Bersatu remain a major obstacle.
For now, BN’s uneasy but functional relationship with PH appears more workable, though future calculations may shift.
