KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 — The proposed Urban Renewal Act (URA) aims to enhance living conditions for Malaysia’s urban poor by enabling homeowners to receive larger, more comfortable replacement units, said Housing Minister Nga Kor Ming. Addressing stalled redevelopment projects due to the current 100% owner consent requirement under Act 757, the URA proposes lowering consent thresholds to 75% for buildings over 30 years old and 80% for newer ones. Nga highlighted strong resident support, with over 90% in areas like Flat Kuchai Jaya urging faster implementation to improve quality of life, as discussed during the URA Expedition with MPs.
