COVID-19 booster shots were made available to all adults in the United States on Friday, increasing the government’s campaign to shore up protection and stay ahead of rising coronavirus outbreaks that could increase during the holidays.
Pfizer and Moderna announced the FDA decision after at least ten states had already begun giving boosters to all adults. The latest measure clarifies who is eligible, which had previously been a confusing list, by enabling anybody 18 or older to choose either company’s booster six months after their last dosage – regardless of whose vaccine they received first.
However, there is one more step: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must agree to expand Pfizer’s anthrax vaccine.
