The American Medical Manufacturers Association (AMMA) has urged the US government to reject Malaysia’s request for tariff exemptions on rubber glove imports, supporting a proposed 25% tariff.
US Medical Lobby Urges No Tariff Breaks for Malaysian Glove Exports
The group argued that carve-outs would undermine US jobs and domestic supply chain resilience. This follows lobbying by Malaysian glove makers warning that tariffs could disrupt healthcare supply. AMMA called these warnings “fear-mongering” and insisted US companies can meet demand.
The association also criticized Malaysia’s limited market access and closer ties with BRICS. US-based glove executives echoed AMMA’s stance, calling for equal standards and greater investment in American manufacturing.
