An American woman, Lalita Kayi Kumar, was found chained to a tree in an Indian jungle, claiming her husband abandoned her. Rescued on July 27, Kumar initially described a harrowing ordeal but later admitted to fabricating the story.

She revealed she had shackled herself due to distress over her expired visa and dwindling funds. Kumar purchased the chain and locks herself and had been suffering from hallucinations.
